National Urban Health Mission (NUHM)

NUHM-Manipur

Introduction:

Over the past decade, India has seen a significant increase of 32% in its urban population, with Manipur reflecting a 29% urban population as of 2011 GoI census. This surge in urban residents has brought about a rise in vulnerable communities, particularly among the urban poor who often reside in slums and makeshift settlements. Rapid Urbanization is resulting into double Whammy for the Urban poor - high burden of disease prevalence of Infectious and Non - Communicable Diseases. Additionally the cost of Health care also represents a significant barrier in availing such Services.

Recognizing these pressing health challenges, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, launched the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) in 2013 as a Sub  Mission of National Health Mission with an Objective of providing the Primary Health Care Services to the Urban Population, particularly Vulnerable and Marginalised Urban poor.

In line with this national vision, Manipur launched its version of the program in 2013. A State specific initiative in the name of Evening Clinic was launched on 14th October 2021 by Hon'ble CM in three (3) Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHC) availing specialist services in Medicine and Obst. & Gynaecology to provide Quality Health Care services in Urban Population.
